Services
Women Partners In OB/GYN San Antonio - Ultrasound

Women Partners offers sonography services in the office 5 days per week at the stone oak location.  The sonograms are performed by licensed sonography technicians. Women Partners offers both transvaginal and abdominal ultrasounds.  Sonograms may be performed for the following reasons:  pregnancy confirmation, assess maternal health during pregnancy, assess fetal growth during pregnancy, and assessment of various gynecological health concerns.

It is sometimes necessary to preauthorize the sonograms and it cannot be performed the same day as your appointment.  Certain insurance plans also limit the number of sonograms that may be performed throughout a pregnancy.

Sonograms will typically be scheduled prior to your appointment. It is important that you arrive on time for the appointment.   Space is limited and we ask that no more than one adult support person accompany you to your appointment.  No video recording nor pictures are allowed in the sonography room.

Sonohysterography

This procedure is a special kind of ultrasound exam and is performed at Women Partners.  Fluid is put into the uterus through the cervix.  A sonogram is then performed to visualize the lining of the uterus in more detail.  This test is performed to find the cause of abnormal bleeding, infertility and miscarriage.  It is also helpful in detecting abnormal growths such as polyps or fibroids, uterine scar tissue,   blocked fallopian tubes, uterine shape, and uterine lining issues.  The test is performed after a menstrual period but before ovulation and on an empty bladder.  You may not have the test if you are pregnant or have a pelvic infection.  Post procedure, you are able to resume normal activities immediately. However, you may experience some cramping, light bleeding or watery discharge.

Preparing for your OB Sonogram

In an effort to optimize your upcoming sonogram, we recommend the following:

  • Drink plenty of fluid the day prior to your appointment.
  • Drink 16 ounces of water the day of your appointment.
  • Do not skip meals. It is important to eat prior to your appointment.
  • Do not empty your bladder.

Please be prepared to be in the office for an extended period of time on the day of the appointment. It is important that we obtain all the necessary images and that may take extra time.
