At Women Partners in OB/GYN, our experienced postpartum care team is here to support your healing, answer your questions, and help you feel like yourself again.

Healing After Birth

After childbirth, your body begins the complex healing process that involves physical recovery and hormonal adjustment. From tissue repair to restoring strength, this time requires patience and gentle care as your body gradually rebalances.

Healing can include managing soreness, easing swelling, and supporting tissue regeneration from birth. Aside from physical recovery, rebuilding energy and emotional resilience are important parts of feeling like yourself again.

Remember, your wellbeing is just as important as your baby’s. Prioritize rest, nutrition, and gentle movement to support your recovery journey.

Support for Nursing Moms

Nursing your baby is a beautiful but sometimes challenging experience. Whether you’re a first-time mom or adding to your family, we understand that breastfeeding can come with questions and concerns. Support for breastfeeding includes helping you find a comfortable latch, maintain a steady milk supply, and ease any discomfort along the way.

Learning to read your baby’s hunger cues, establishing a consistent feeding routine, and encouraging skin-to-skin contact all play important roles in building a healthy nursing relationship.

Frequently Asked Questions

Postpartum Care

“Baby blues” are a common emotional response that affects up to 80% of new mothers shortly after giving birth. Baby blues may include mood swings, feelings of sadness, irritability, anxiety, and fatigue. These feelings tend to begin within the first few days after giving birth and usually improve within two weeks without medical intervention.

These emotions are largely due to the rapid hormonal changes your body undergoes after delivery, along with the physical demands of childbirth and the challenges of adjusting to life with a newborn. Sleep deprivation and the overwhelming responsibility of caring for a baby can also intensify these emotions.

While the baby blues are generally temporary, it’s important to monitor your mood and seek help if symptoms persist for more than two weeks or interfere with your daily life, as this may indicate postpartum depression. Getting support when you need it is an important part of new mom care.

Unlike the baby blues, postpartum depression (PPD) is a more intense and longer-lasting mood disorder that can develop within the weeks and months after childbirth. It affects about 1 in 7 new mothers and can cause feelings of sadness, hopelessness, guilt, or disconnection from your baby that don’t go away. You may also experience difficulty sleeping or eating, low energy, trouble concentrating, or a loss of interest in things you used to enjoy.

Postpartum depression is not a sign of weakness or something you can simply “snap out of.” It is a real medical condition caused by a combination of hormonal shifts, emotional stress, exhaustion, and life changes after giving birth. With the right support, whether through therapy, medication, lifestyle changes, or a combination, you can begin to feel like yourself again. If you think you may be experiencing symptoms of PPD, you’re not alone, and help is available at Women Partners in OB/GYN.

Feeling sad after having a baby is common, but you don’t have to face it alone. Reach out to family or friends and don’t hesitate to ask for help. Prioritize getting plenty of rest yourself, including naps when your baby naps, to support your physical and emotional recovery.

Make time to stay connected with loved ones, keep up with gentle exercise, and maintain simple self-care habits. Sharing your feelings openly with family and friends can bring relief and understanding. Our team at Women Partners in OB/GYN is here to listen, support, and guide you through this challenging time whenever you’re ready for new mom care.
